FOTTH are delighted that on Tuesday 27th March 2007 the Department of Culture Media and Sport confirmed that Trafford Town Hall has now been granted Grade 2 Listed Building status. This follows the surprise ‘about turn’ in January by the Council Leader who now apparently supports the retention of the architectural fabric of the building.

We await further news on the definition of ‘the architectural fabric of the building’ but nevertheless welcome this astonishing climb down. There has been no consultation with Trafford residents in respect of this important local landmark. Trafford Council seem determined to push through the outcomes that they want for the Town Hall site, and we hope that they will now enter into detailed and meaningful discussions with the community that they are supposed to represent. We want to see the existing Town Hall preserved for the continued benefit of the people of Trafford.
